Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about exam day, results and certificates as a private candidate.

On or Before Exam Day

You must bring photographic ID — the same ID you provided at registration (e.g. passport or driving licence). We will check your ID on arrival.
Morning exams start at 9.00am. Afternoon exams start from 1.00pm. Arrive by 8.30am for morning exams and by 12.30pm for afternoon exams.
Contact us immediately if you are running late. If you arrive 30 or more minutes late, your exam may not be available. Do not assume you can enter after this point — call us first.
You may bring: black pens, pencils, a ruler, mathematical instruments, a permitted calculator, highlighters, and any other equipment specified by your awarding body. All items must be in a clear transparent pencil case or bag.
Watches (including smart watches), mobile phones, electronic devices of any kind, coats, scarves, hats (unless by prior arrangement), food, dictionaries, and any unauthorised materials. Being found with a prohibited item is a serious offence and may result in disqualification.
No. Mobile phones are strictly prohibited in the exam room. If your phone is found during an exam, it will be treated as a serious malpractice offence regardless of whether it was switched off.
Contact our Exams Officer as soon as possible. Depending on the circumstances, you may be able to apply for Special Consideration with supporting evidence (e.g. a medical certificate). It is important to notify us before the exam — not after.
Smart casual dress is welcomed. Outdoor jackets and scarves must not be worn during the exam. Candidates wearing a niqab will be asked to confirm their identity in private before the exam begins.
If you have a timetable clash, notify us as soon as possible. You cannot choose which exam to sit first — our Examinations Officer will provide your clash schedule in line with JCQ regulations.
No — we do not provide coloured overlays. If you use overlays, you must bring your own. If you have an approved access arrangement for coloured overlays, please confirm this with us before exam day.
Yes, toilet breaks are permitted but no extra time is given. You must be escorted and may not access any materials during the break.
Only if rest breaks are an approved part of your access arrangement. Rest breaks are supervised at your desk — you must not access the question paper or answer booklet during the break.
You may leave after a specified time has passed in the exam. Once you have left the room, you will not be permitted to return. Ask our invigilators for the earliest permitted departure time for your specific exam.
Limited storage is available. All personal belongings are left at your own risk and you will not have access to them until your exam is fully completed.

Certificates are issued by the awarding body and arrive at our centre several weeks after results day. We will email you when your certificate is ready for collection. You must collect in person with photographic ID.
No — certificates must be collected in person. If you cannot collect, arrange an authorised representative.
Contact the awarding body directly for certificate corrections or replacements — this is handled by them, not by us.

Contact our Exams Officer. We can help by providing confirmation letters or directing you to the awarding body's verification services.
